Who I Am

My name is Lucie Novakova. I live in Prague with my husband Martin and our two children: Tereza, who is three, and Jakub, who is one. Before having children, I worked as a project manager in a technology company. I still work part-time, mostly from home.

I started this site because I kept giving the same advice to friends who were expecting their first child. At some point it made more sense to write it down properly than to repeat it in conversations.

Why English

Czech Republic has a large community of international residents and expats, many of whom are raising children here. When I was pregnant with Tereza, I found that English-language resources about parenting in Czech Republic were limited. Most advice was written for parents in the UK or US, where the healthcare system, the cultural context, and the available resources are different.

I write in English to reach parents who are navigating Czech parenthood without Czech as their first language. I also write about things that are relevant regardless of nationality: newborn care, sleep, family activities, and the emotional reality of early parenthood.

What I Write About

I write about things I have direct experience with. This means the topics are sometimes specific: a particular nature reserve that works well with a stroller, a specific approach to toddler bedtime that took us months to figure out. I do not write about things I have only read about.

I am not a pediatrician, a child psychologist, or a certified sleep consultant. I am a parent who has tried a lot of things and kept notes. When I reference medical or developmental information, I link to the sources. Please consult your own pediatrician for advice specific to your child.

What This Site Is Not

This is not a product review site. I do not accept sponsored content or affiliate arrangements. When I mention a specific product or place, it is because we used it and found it worthwhile, not because anyone paid me to say so.

This is also not a site about perfect parenting. We have made mistakes. We have changed our approach when something was not working. I try to write honestly about both the things that went well and the things that did not.

If you have questions or want to share your own experiences, the contact page is the best way to reach me. I read every message, though I cannot always respond quickly.
